A life between birth and death

It’s a mad, mad life between birth and death. The only thing we can ever be certain of is that one day, whether we like it or not, our bodies are going to give up on us. I was reminded by this fact not so long ago by a pal who’s trying to cling onto her body parts that are a little worse for wear.

When I fall out of my sack in a morning, and yep, I do fall out, everything aches. It takes a good hour before all me bits and pieces are functioning in a relatively ergonomic fashion with the environment. Once I’m off the floor, and in the shower, the day can begin.

One thing I’ve learnt, though, is that life is much more than what we can physically have, see or hear. The people who cross our lives and touch our hearts aren’t always as visible, or known, as the houses we live in, the cars we drive, or the places we work, but they often mean more by helping us evolve into the person we will one day become. That one day, is today, because yesterday is history and tomorrow never comes.

  1. Today, my fortune cookie says: "Wise men learn more from fools, than fools from the wise".

  2. I agree there's more to life than we can grab hold off or take a close look at - hopes, love, memories (there's bad stuff too, but I'm pretty sure you want to keep this blog positive)

My cookie said "A vivid and creative mind characterizes you". I am wearing a particularly bright shade of nail polish ...

  3. Very deep.

Thought it time I tried another fortune cookie...

'You are far more influential than you think,' it said. I'll remember that when I next ask my daughter to tidy her room.

  4. Yep... trying to dig deep into me soul to find a way outta this mid life crisis I'm having.

I would say vivid and creative is a good description for your mind, Patsy.

And what form of incentive will you be using to influence your daughter, to clean her room, Mister Valance?

My fortune cookie today says: "Now is the time to try something new". Best take meself off to the shops, when they open, and find me something new.

  5. Her incentive will be staying in my good-books. I'll give her my best no-nonsense, Dad-means-business look and use my stern voice to tell her I want her room tidying. Then as I walk away, exuding paternal influence after laying down the law, she'll ignore me.

My fortune cookie today says - 'Don't waste time trying to influence females. They have a minds of their own and do what they please, when they please.'

  6. Let's try another one...

It says... 'Be careful where you tie knots in string, Grasshopper.'
